Fannie Mae is a leading source of financing for mortgages in the United States. Fannie Mae acquires mortgage loans from lenders, securitizes those loans into mortgage-backed securities (MBS) that we guarantee, and receives fees (guaranty fees) for assuming the credit risk associated with the loans underlying the MBS we issue. Fannie Mae does not originate mortgage loans and does not lend money directly to borrowers.
Fannie Mae's principal place of business is in Washington, D.C.
